SC spanner for Modi
Friday, July 31,2009:Narendra Modi hasn't got away with SIT clutches yet. The Supreme Court has refused his government's plea not to extend the three-month deadline for SIT to complete the post-Godhra riots probe.
A few days back, the Gujarat High Court had cleared the chief minister's interrogation by SIT in the post-Godhra riot cases.
The SC Bench wondered how it was going to adversely affect the Gujarat government if the SIT was given time till December 31 to complete the probe. While granting the time requested for, the Bench said SIT was free to complete the probe before the extended deadline.
"How does it affect you (the state government)? By extending the time limit for SIT till December 31, what prejudice will it cause the state? The SIT is doing a job under the Supreme Court's order," it said.
